Clarks released for the Fall/Winter 2012 collection two new additions to their existing line. The Desert Trooper and the Desert Guard. I must say that I really like them, and specially like the Desert Guard. I love that little welt and was event thinking about doing for next summer a boat shoe for my Ramalhoni Shoes collection, with an interpretation of a welt somewhat like that.
As for the base model, the iconic Clarks Desert boot, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, I can say that they’re almost perfect. The thing is, about Desert Boots for me, I wore they extensively from my sixteen’s to my early twenties, mainly because I rode a bike and they were warm and comfortable. I wore them so much I got bored.
But the boredom is over, I even have two models in my new collection, a laced one and a double monk. This shoe design is somewhat overlooked but I think it will have a big comeback in the next couple of years.
As for Clarks, my kudos to them. It is very easy for a brand with a winning product to just rest on their laurels and do nothing. Clarks didn’t do that and is following other shoe brands like Church’s that are taking their products to the next level without forgetting where they came from. Let’s hope that Alden catches the same train, it’s needing it, bad!
